New York DA Under State AG Letitia James Caught On Bodycam Video Berating Officer During Traffic Stop

WEBSTER, N.Y. (Police1) — All nine members of the Rochester City Council signed a letter Saturday addressed to New York Attorney General Letitia James, asking her office to investigate the conduct of Monroe County DA Sandra Doorley during a traffic incident caught on camera earlier this week.

The move comes a day after the Town of Webster released bodycam footage showing the district attorney going off on a police officer who stopped her as she was driving home from work on Monday.

The incident “has raised significant concerns regarding Ms. Doorley’s behavior,” the council’s letter to James says, and has led them to “question her fitness to serve as District Attorney.”

In the tense video, Doorley can be seen telling the officer she didn’t stop when he first attempted to pull her over because she “didn’t feel like stopping on Phillips Road at 5:30.” She later tells the officer she’s “the D.A.” and adds she was going 55 mph.

Texas Democrat Rep. Cuellar, Wife Indicted On
Bribery Charges Related Ties To Azerbaijan

(Just the News) — Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar and his wife were indicted Friday on conspiracy and bribery charges, reportedly in connection with a Justice Department probe into ties between U.S. business leaders and the former Soviet republic of Azerbaijan.

The possibility of an indictment has known for years.

From 2014 to 2021, Cuellar and his wife accepted nearly $600,000 in bribes from an Azerbaijan-controlled energy company and a bank in Mexico, according to the Associated Press. In exchange, the Texas congressman allegedly agreed to advance the interests of the country and the bank in the U.S., according to the indictments reviewed by the wire service.

The indictment also alleges Cuellar agreed to influence legislation favorable to Azerbaijan and deliver a pro-Azerbaijan speech on the House floor of the U.S. House.

Cueller said in statement Friday that he and his wife, Imelda Cuellar, “are innocent of these allegations.”

Georgia Gov. Kemp Signs Law Requiring Jails To
Check Immigration Status Of Inmates

(Fox News) — Georgia’s governor gave the final approval on Wednesday for a bill requiring jailers across the state to check the immigration status of inmates and work with federal immigration officials instead of sheltering people who are in the U.S. illegally.

Gov. Brian Kemp signed the bill into law at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, making most of the provisions effective immediately.

Kemp also signed a separate law requiring cash bail for an additional 30 crimes, while also restricting people and charitable bail funds from posting cash bonds for more than three people per year unless they meet requirements to become a bail company, according to The Associated Press.

The bail law goes into effect on July 1.

Fonseca is one of an increasing number of frustrated Cubans who have to grapple with yet another hurdle while navigating the island's already complicated monetary system – a shortage of cash.

Judge Declares Mistrial For AZ Rancher Charged With Murder Of Mexican National Near Southern Border

(Just the News) — A judge has declared a mistrial in Arizona on Monday, after a jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict, in a case where a rancher allegedly killed a Mexican national on his property.

George Alan Kelly was accused of second-degree murder for the death of Gabriel Cuen-Baltimea, who was found fatally shot on Kelly’s ranch near the southern border on Jan. 30, 2023.

The judge overseeing the case declared the mistrial after the jury could not reach a decision after several days. The prosecutor told jurors that if they did not believe there was enough evidence to convict Kelly on the second-degree murder charge, they could convict him on a lower charge of manslaughter, aggravated assault, and negligent homicide, according to Fox News.

The jury had begun deliberating last week, on April 18.

Supreme Court Rejects Pornography Industry Plea
To Block Texas Age Verification Law

(Wash Examiner)  — The Supreme Court rejected an emergency plea from the pornography industry to stop the enforcement of a Texas age verification law imposed on pornography sites, allowing the Lone Star State to continue the policy it enacted to protect children.

The order from Justice Samuel Alito came down Tuesday without explanation or a public dissent, but it left in place the law that prompted Pornhub, one of the most trafficked pornography sites in the world, to cease operation in Texas.

In mid-April, adult industry trade organization Free Speech Coalition joined forces with the American Civil Liberties Union to ask the Supreme Court to stop the law, arguing that the law aimed at stopping children from viewing pornography actually harms the rights of adults.

The pornography industry said the laws violated the First Amendment rights of adults by asking them to submit personal information to use the pornography websites.

Pathogens Including Superbugs Found On Floors,
Ceilings And Door Handles Of UK Hospital Toilets

(Science X) — Pathogenic bacteria and fungi, including multi-drug resistant "superbugs" have been found on the floors, ceilings, door handles and other surfaces of hospital toilets in the UK, with patient toilets the worst affected, the ESCMID Global Congress (formerly ECCMID) in Barcelona, Spain (27-30 April) will hear.

Women's bathrooms contained fewer microbes than men's, with female staff toilets particularly clean, while unisex and disabled (also unisex) toilets were the most contaminated. Multi-drug resistant bacteria were concentrated in patient toilets.

Professor Stephanie Dancer, a consultant microbiologist at NHS Lanarkshire, UK wondered whether toilets without lids spread microbes to other surfaces in the bathroom when flushed, as well as whether some toilets are more contaminated than others.

She says, "The move to convert traditional male and female facilities to unisex facilities in some hospitals raises concern that people might be exposed to higher risks of contamination. For example, hand hygiene surveys show that women are more likely to clean their hands after bathroom use than men, so we decided to investigate which microbes were present on different surfaces in toilets and how many of them there were.
